The purpose of this WHA-funded ECPA energy efficiency project is to support work to lower energy consumption in municipal buildings through the development and implementation of sound energy efficiency and policies. The project will focus on Goiania, Brazil; Valdivia in Chile; and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. These three municipalities have indicated a willingness to address emissions through facilitation and implementation of energy efficiency improvements; have significant populations, and high-energy consumption.
Florida International University and its partner universities in Chile, Brazil and Trinidad and Tobago, determined the selection of countries, municipalities, and local participants by their ability to provide an advantageous collaborative environment for the analysis, development of relevant recommendations, implementation, and monitoring of the ECPA energy efficiency project. Our team of experts also selected the three participating municipalities for their potential to relevantly incorporate energy efficiency policies to produce exemplary pilot works that could spread to other cities and regions. Our combined expertise in each geographic area, gives us considerable capacity to act on the realities of each municipality and select what is practical, expeditious, relevant and efficient for this project.
